Peel Castle from the harbour

Posted by Picasa

The oldest part of the castle which is the round tower from the 11th century is just out of shot to the left, the Gatehouse (just to the left of the telephone box) and Cathederal (above the telephone box) were built after 1333.

As you can see a few of the old red phone boxes have been kept in the Isle of Man, but no many.

Roundabout instructions

 Posted by Picasa

This is the sign giving the operating instructions for the water powered carousel at Silverdale. I reckon there can't be many kids brought up in the Isle of Man that haven't taken turns holding the deadmans handle up to let the water through to the wheel, it dates back to the 1890's and although was vandelised in 2007 has I think been restored now, I must go have a look !

Shadows

 Posted by Picasa

I just liked the way the sun was casting the shadows here.

The picture was taken in the Kaye Memorial Garden at the bottom of Summerhill. Its just a small garden, and not a lot here really, except a bronze statue and a memorial to the people killed in the Summerland disaster on 2nd August 1973.

I realised I didnt know much about this place and had a little dig, it turns out that in 1950 Mr Kaye bequethed 112 acres of land and several properties to Douglas Corporation - they flogged the property to the sitting tennants for £6,800 and spent the money on this garden. Sounds like Douglas Corporation, could waste money just as well then as they can now !
